Woman. Mother. Writer.

A conversation with Jon Waldman, author of ‘Swimming Aimlessly’

When was the last time you heard a man speak openly and honestly about infertility? For many of us, the answer is “Never.” But the statistics show that infertility is more common than we realize.

In Canada, one in six couples experience infertility. While in the U.S., around one in 10 couples will struggle to have a child. That means you know someone — likely multiple people — who have dealt with infertility, even if you weren’t aware of it. These people are your coworkers, friends, and neighbors.

When women have difficulty trying to conceive, they tend to be more…

It’s an emotion that doesn’t benefit anyone, especially you

All of us have felt guilty at one time or another. Maybe we let someone down. Or, we didn’t live up to someone else’s — or own unrealistic — expectations.

If you’re a parent or helped raise a child, you know there is no end to the guilt you can feel. Did I do the right thing? Is this the best choice? Why is my child so angry at me?

There are three situations where we parents often feel a sense of guilt: when we can’t afford something our child wants; when we say “Yes” and then change our mind…

And none of them are “go to sleep earlier”

Do you dread weekday mornings? Does it take a crowbar to get your kids out of bed? And are you looking for advice beyond, “Put them to bed earlier”? I’ve got five creative hacks that will make waking up a little easier.

Invigorate the air with essential oils

Certain scents are naturally stimulating. Peppermint, cinnamon, grapefruit, bergamot, and lemon all help us wake up and stay alert. Which ones you use is a matter of personal preference.

If you have an essential oil diffuser, use these scents in the morning. …

Happy Easter to those of you that celebrate the holiday. This is the second year in a row that most egg hunts are cancelled. Will you set up your own…

Are you in the U.S.? I do run into homeschool haters every now and then, but I can't say I've encountered much of a stigma. There's a whole generation of homeschoolers that are attending college, entering the military, and becoming entrepreneurs.

I currently homeschool 2 of my 3 kids. (Oldest attends an online public school.) It doesn't take all day to lesson plan and homeschool. Really. And I work part-time. My family has a lot more freedom than if we were tied to the school calendar.

There are lots of opportunities for your kids to be around other kids. Just…

I published this article last night, and it’s already going viral. It’s in my top five most read stories, and the numbers are climbing by the hour:

What blows me…

It has nothing to do with COVID and everything to do with mom shaming

Earlier today, TikTok user Melina Tesi (melinatesi) posted a clip from the recent birth of her baby. She had a c-section, and we get to witness the first time she sees her beautiful baby.

What should be an awe-inducing moment is being taken out of context and causing a Twitter sh*tstorm. People are under the impression that the clear plastic barrier is due to COVID. (Spoiler alert: It isn’t.) And boy, do they have something to say.

Social Media Weighs In

Just take a look at some of these tweets:

And then, of course, the world being what it is…

I’d like to share two parenting articles that I read this week: one that made me laugh and one that made cry.

First, the funny one. Check out this delightfully…

A mother’s reflection on the Boulder, Colorado grocery store shooting

During COVID, grocery stores have provided a rare opportunity to get out of the house. A place to see people in real life and not on a computer screen. A place where there is some semblance of normal. Grocery stores are a safe place, until they aren’t.

This week marks the one year anniversary of my family entering COVID quarantine. We went into it thinking it would be a fun, few weeks of Netflix and takeout meals. My husband and I binge watched the Tiger King after the kids went to bed.

Those fun, few weeks grew into several not-so-fun…
